Karachi Court Acquits Anmol alias Pinky in 2021 Drug Case

KARACHI: An Additional District and Sessions Court South has approved the acquittal application of accused Anmol alias Pinky in a drug case registered at Gizri Police Station and acquitted her of the charges.

According to Express News, the defence lawyer told the court during the hearing that two other accused in the case had already been acquitted. Co-accused Ali and Fahmida were acquitted in 2024.

The defence counsel said Anmol alias Pinky had been implicated in the case on the basis of statements given by the co-accused.

The lawyer argued that following the acquittal of the co-accused, there was no possibility of Anmol alias Pinky being convicted in the case.

It may be noted that the case against Anmol alias Pinky was registered at Gizri Police Station in 2021. She had been an absconder in the case.

KP CM Sohail Afridi Calls on PTI Workers to Gather at Squares Across Pakistan at 10pm

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has asked all lawmakers and party leaders to prepare for tonight, saying that every square across Pakistan would be turned into “D-Chowk” at 10pm and directing workers to come out at squares and intersections carrying Pakistan and PTI flags.

Chief Minister Sohail Afridi reached Adiala Road to meet PTI founder Imran Khan, while Rawalpindi police removed barriers from Adiala Road.

At the Factory checkpoint, the KP chief minister asked the SHO of Saddar Bairuni what message he had brought. Noticing a man in plain clothes, Afridi asked about his presence, saying, “You are also an SHO and he is also an SHO?” He then asked the plain-clothes man whether he was a brigadier, colonel or major. The man replied that he was a journalist.

A journalist asked Afridi whether there appeared to be any chance of a meeting as there had been no response from the police, and whether he would stay or leave. The chief minister said he would wait as long as there was still time for the meeting.

He added that all MPAs, parliamentarians and office-bearers had been told to prepare for 10pm. “At 10pm, we will turn every square across Pakistan into D-Chowk,” he said, directing all workers to come out at squares and intersections at 10pm carrying Pakistan and PTI flags.

Another journalist asked Afridi how he could talk about gathering 200,000 people when he could not gather 10,000. The chief minister responded by asking who the journalist was, which channel he represented and told him to come forward. When the journalist said he was from digital media, Afridi said he did not respond to digital media.

The chief minister said the treatment meted out to the PTI founder and his party since 2022 was wrong. He said the entire country was being pushed towards destruction because of stubbornness and ego, adding that the system had been destroyed and those who brought this system were responsible for its destruction.

Afridi directed party workers to keep their focus on the September 27 march.

He said the September 27 call had become a nightmare for them, adding that a “sea of people” had come out in Khyber the previous day and that they would also visit the remaining districts.

“We have said that we will bring two million people to Islamabad on September 27, and we will bring even more,” he said. “If they want to improve the situation, they should arrange our meeting before September 28.”

The chief minister further said that the other political parties were not sincere with the country, adding that a government minister himself was saying that the system had collapsed.

Pakistan Says Iran-US Talks Could Resume Anytime With Consent of Both Sides

ISLAMABAD: Following Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s recent important visit to Iran, Pakistan has said efforts are continuing to bring the parties back to the negotiating table and that Iran-US talks could resume at any time with the consent of both sides.

During his weekly press briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi said the August 7 Makkah Agreement was purely defensive in nature and aimed at jointly addressing the security situation in the region.

He said Pakistan was using all direct and indirect channels to implement the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding and bring the parties back to the negotiating table. Pakistan remained hopeful about its role as a mediator for peace between the United States and Iran.

The spokesperson said talks in Islamabad could resume at any time with the consent of the parties. He added that Pakistan had already made its position clear regarding the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

Although the memorandum might not have been fully implemented, Andrabi said it remained the basic framework for peace.

He said the ceasefire could be extended with the consent of the parties, which could pave the way for the resumption of negotiations.

Addressing a ceremony at the Sindh Bar Council, Javed Alam Odho said lawyers and police were part of the same criminal justice system. He said lawyers were the supreme licensing authority and had significant responsibilities.

“We are here to resolve problems and find solutions,” the Sindh IG said, adding that 27,000 police personnel had been punished over the past seven months.

He urged the Sindh Bar Council to make maximum use of its powers, saying lawyers were an educated segment of society and that working together would strengthen the system. He added that police stations would not be surrounded and issues would instead be resolved through dialogue.

Speaking about the police force, Odho said that out of 160,000 police personnel, 132,000 were performing duties.

He said the overall law and order situation in Karachi had improved, adding that crime in the city had declined by 14 percent.

The investigation team also searched a 500-metre area surrounding the crime scene and collected various pieces of evidence.

FIA Registers Case Against Over 250 Foreign Nationals Arrested in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has formally registered a case against more than 250 foreign nationals arrested in Islamabad, who had arrived in Pakistan on visit, tourist or business visas and were allegedly operating a large network of call centres.

The case against the foreign nationals was registered by the FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Cell under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946.

The arrested individuals are nationals of Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and China.

According to the FIR, information was received about the presence of foreign nationals in a private housing society. The foreign nationals were allegedly involved in business activities illegally.

Following the arrest of 258 suspects, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) faced difficulties due to a shortage of staff and detention capacity.

The district administration was subsequently requested to declare the private building being used by the suspects as a sub-jail.

The illegal call centres were discovered during an investigation into a case involving the recovery of liquor.
