ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has formally registered a case against more than 250 foreign nationals arrested in Islamabad, who had arrived in Pakistan on visit, tourist or business visas and were allegedly operating a large network of call centres.
The case against the foreign nationals was registered by the FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Cell under Section 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946.
The arrested individuals are nationals of Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and China.
According to the FIR, information was received about the presence of foreign nationals in a private housing society. The foreign nationals were allegedly involved in business activities illegally.
Following the arrest of 258 suspects, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) faced difficulties due to a shortage of staff and detention capacity.
The district administration was subsequently requested to declare the private building being used by the suspects as a sub-jail.
The illegal call centres were discovered during an investigation into a case involving the recovery of liquor.
