KARACHI: Two people were injured after a clash broke out between two student organizations at the University of Karachi, according to reports.

Police deployed a heavy contingent to the university following the incident. Authorities said an investigation into the matter is underway.

Meanwhile, the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) issued a statement expressing serious concern over the recent incident at the University of Karachi and the subsequent arrest of its workers.

The organization said it had been submitting written applications and complaints to the university administration for several months regarding the deteriorating law and order situation on campus, the movement of outside elements, and the possibility of clashes.

According to the statement, the administration had been clearly warned that if timely and effective measures were not taken, the university’s academic environment could be affected. However, it alleged that these serious concerns were ignored.

The press release further claimed that workers of the organization were targeted by a rival student group during the recent incident. It added that, instead of conducting an impartial investigation, the authorities arrested its workers, which it described as contrary to the principles of justice. The statement said that if the law is equal for everyone, action should also be taken without discrimination and based on facts.

The organization demanded the immediate release of the arrested workers, an independent, transparent, and impartial investigation into the incident, and indiscriminate action against all those found responsible.
