A suspected grenade attack on the Rangers Headquarters on University Road in Karachi was foiled, while a search and clearance operation is underway following heavy gunfire in the area. Multiple arrests have also been reported.

According to initial reports, security forces responded promptly to the attack, killing one suspected terrorist. No casualties were reported among the security personnel.

Preliminary information suggests that the attackers detonated an explosive near a vehicle at the gate close to the Meteorological Department on University Road in an apparent attempt to create a diversion, allowing another group to enter the Rangers Headquarters.

Security forces reportedly prevented the suspected terrorists from entering the Rangers Headquarters through the Meteorological Department premises. Intense exchange of gunfire was reported from the area, and a security operation was launched after one suspected attacker was killed.

Meanwhile, heavy firing was also reported near Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 6, prompting the deployment of additional police and other law enforcement personnel to the scene.

Sindh Chief Minister took notice of the explosion and firing incident near Meteorological Chowrangi and contacted the Inspector General (IG) of Sindh and the Additional IG Karachi. According to the Chief Minister’s spokesperson, he has sought a detailed report on the incident.

Police have closed the road from Meteorological Chowrangi towards Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 6 and Kamran Chowrangi for traffic due to the ongoing security situation. The road leading from the Meteorological Department to Iqbal Chaman Colony has also been closed to all traffic.

The security operation remains in progress, while further details are awaited.
