National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Islamabad has registered a case against Noreen Niazi, the sister of the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and other legal provisions for allegedly denying the successes of the armed forces during Marka-e-Haq, making false and baseless allegations against the state and state institutions, including the armed forces, attempting to undermine public trust in the state, and creating panic.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the case was registered on behalf of the state on the complaint of NCCIA Assistant Sub-Inspector Ibrahim Farooq. The FIR states that Noreen Niazi, during a podcast interview, allegedly made false and baseless allegations against the State of Pakistan and its institutions, including the armed forces.

The FIR further alleges that she attempted to erode public confidence in the state and spread panic by disseminating false, provocative, insulting, and threatening content through social media. It states that Noreen Niazi carried out organized propaganda against state and security institutions and that the controversial interview was shared and widely circulated on multiple accounts on X, formerly known as Twitter.

According to the FIR, she allegedly attempted to deny the successes of the Pakistan Armed Forces during Marka-e-Haq and spread what the authorities described as a false narrative aimed at creating hatred, fear, and mistrust among the public against state institutions.

The case further states that her statements were a deliberate attempt to damage the reputation of state and defence institutions. It adds that Noreen Niazi was repeatedly served notices directing her to record her statement and join the investigation.

Based on the preliminary evidence and on the orders of the competent authority, the FIR has been registered against Noreen Niazi under Sections 20 and 26-A of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), Section 505 of the Pakistan Penal Code relating to creating public mischief, and Section 508 of the Pakistan Penal Code relating to incitement.

The FIR also states that the identification of any other individuals allegedly involved will be determined during the course of the investigation.
