Ousted and fugitive former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid has announced that she will return to her homeland later this year.

Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled Bangladesh in August 2024 following intense protests led by a student movement against her government and subsequent restrictions. She traveled to India, where she has remained in exile ever since.

Now, after nearly two years, Sheikh Hasina Wajed has announced her decision to return to Bangladesh.

Speaking in an interview during her self-imposed exile, Sheikh Hasina said that she would overcome every obstacle and return to her homeland later this year.
