HANGU: An investigation report into the terrorist attack on the Khazana police check post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu district has revealed key details about the planning of the assault and the tactics used by the attackers.

According to the report, the attackers used advanced thermal technology to target the police check post under the cover of darkness, enabling them to monitor the movement of security personnel during the operation.

The investigation found that around 100 terrorists participated in the attack, which was led by a wanted terrorist commander.

The report stated that the attackers were equipped with modern weapons, including sniper rifles and quadcopters, which were used for surveillance and operational support during the assault.

According to the findings, the terrorists not only targeted the police check post but also launched coordinated attacks on a police reinforcement team. The attackers had positioned themselves in ambushes at multiple locations up to two to three kilometres away and attacked the backup force from three different directions under a pre-planned strategy.

Despite limited resources, police personnel put up strong resistance and fought the terrorists for a prolonged period, preventing the attackers from achieving their objectives immediately, the report said.

However, the intense assault resulted in the martyrdom of 10 police personnel, while 32 others were injured.

The investigation report also reviewed all aspects of the attack, including security arrangements, intelligence information, the immediate response, and recommendations for preventing and responding to similar attacks in the future.

In light of the report, authorities have decided to intensify action against those responsible for the attack and their facilitators, while security in the affected area has been further strengthened.
