ISLAMABAD: Police in the federal capital have taken former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan into custody for allegedly violating Section 144, holding an unauthorized rally, and creating a public disturbance.
According to police officials, the former senator was detained while allegedly participating in a rally that had not received prior permission from the relevant authorities.
The local administration said Section 144 is currently in force in Islamabad, under which public gatherings and rallies are prohibited. It added that legal action is being taken against those found violating the restrictions.
Sources said police also reviewed the activities of other individuals present at the scene and made strict security arrangements to keep the situation under control. However, it was not immediately clear how many other people, if any, had been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

Police officials said evidence related to the case is being collected and that further legal action will be taken after completing the required legal formalities.
There was no immediate official response from Mushtaq Ahmad Khan regarding the development.
Authorities noted that Section 144 is imposed in Islamabad on certain occasions to maintain law and order. Under the restrictions, prior permission from the relevant administration is required for holding public gatherings, protests, and rallies. Police said action against those violating the law will continue without discrimination.
