ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is likely to accept the resignation of Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal following the recent tragedy at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), sources said.
According to local media outlet Ausaf, State Minister for Health Dr Mukhtar Bharat is likely to be appointed as the Federal Minister for Health once Kamal’s resignation is formally accepted.
The expected change in the federal health ministry comes in the wake of the tragic incident at PIMS, where 14 newborn babies were reportedly killed in a fire that broke out in the hospital’s neonatal ward.
The incident has raised serious questions over safety arrangements and emergency response measures at the country’s leading public-sector medical facility.
