A major reshuffle in the federal cabinet is reportedly under consideration, with possible changes in several key ministries, including Interior, Finance, Maritime Affairs and Defence. Proposals to merge certain ministries and remove some ministers of state are also being discussed as part of efforts to reduce the size of the cabinet.
According to sources, consultations are underway on various proposals regarding the expected cabinet reorganization, with senior leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) engaged in discussions on the matter.
Sources said Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar is likely to be assigned the Finance Ministry portfolio while continuing to serve as Deputy Prime Minister.
Similarly, Mohsin Naqvi is being considered a strong candidate for the Foreign Affairs Ministry. For the Interior Ministry, the names of Rana Sanaullah and Azam Nazeer Tarar are under consideration, although no final decision has yet been made.

Sources further revealed that proposals are being reviewed to abolish or merge certain ministries and divisions in an effort to streamline the cabinet. The number of ministries and divisions is reportedly being considered for reduction to 32.
Among the proposals under discussion is the merger of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs with the Ministry of Defence to improve administrative efficiency.
Sources also stated that the possibility of removing some ministers of state from less significant ministries is under review, while various options are being examined to reduce the overall size of the cabinet.
According to sources, consultations on the anticipated cabinet changes and the redistribution of ministerial portfolios are still ongoing, and final decisions will be made after high-level discussions are completed.
