KARACHI: Former Sindh Assembly member Ghulam Rasool Unar has approached a court seeking the registration of a criminal case against his former wife over allegations of fraud, blackmail and death threats.

In an application filed before an additional district and sessions judge in Karachi’s South district, Unar said he had come into contact with the woman through social media and married her via video call on February 23, 2026, without having seen her face in person.

His lawyer, Aamir Nawaz Warraich, told the court that whenever Unar asked the woman to show her face, she allegedly sent him AI-generated images. He further claimed that the woman wore a veil during the marriage ceremony conducted via video link.

According to the lawyer, Unar saw the woman after the marriage and found that her appearance was entirely different from the images he had allegedly been sent. He subsequently distanced himself from her, the lawyer said.

The application alleged that the woman later shared fabricated images and social media posts falsely portraying Unar as dead. Unar divorced her on August 9, according to his counsel.

Warraich told the court that a complaint had also been lodged against the former wife with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

He further alleged that following the divorce, the woman had demanded tens of millions of rupees from Unar and was blackmailing him and threatening to have him killed.

The court issued notices to the SP Complaint Cell, the Defence police station SHO and Unar’s former wife, and directed police to submit a report by August 17.
