LAHORE: Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has said that the call for a protest on August 5 seeking Imran Khan’s release was issued by the party and not by her.

Speaking to the media at the Gorakhpur Factory checkpoint, Aleema Khan said she had only been asked by party workers to visit various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She said that when they reached the province, people were already waiting on the roads.

She said they visited Hazara, Haripur, Mardan, Swabi, Swat and Buner, where, according to her, people were fully prepared. She added that people were waiting for the party to announce the call for Imran Khan’s release.

Aleema Khan said the movement had to be led and organised by the workers themselves. She claimed that misconceptions were being deliberately created to give the impression that no one stood with the PTI founder, adding that everyone had seen how many people came out in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

She said this was the era of social media and that national media should also show these developments. Referring to the media, she said journalists should stand together, alleging that media personnel were being picked up while others remained silent. She claimed that national media was not showing these developments, whereas everything was visible on social media.

Aleema Khan said everyone knew what had happened to the PTI founder over the past three years. She described Imran Khan as the voice of the people, claiming he represented 90 percent of the country’s population. She further said that conditions in the country were continuing to worsen.

Commenting on Kashmir, she questioned why the media was silent over the situation there. She claimed that social media had shown that people in Kashmir did not come out to cast their votes.

Referring to the February 8, 2024 general elections, Aleema Khan said the public had given its verdict through the ballot but alleged that the vote was secretly stolen. She reiterated that the announcement for the August 5 protest had already been made.

Meanwhile, Aleema Khan, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Salman Akram Raja were once again not allowed to meet Imran Khan. It was also the scheduled meeting day for Bushra Bibi. However, Bushra Bibi’s sister-in-law, Mehrunnisa, was granted permission to meet her.
