Pakistan Gears Up to Chair 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women in Islamabad

Delegations from member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) have started arriving in Islamabad to participate in the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women.

The two-day conference, hosted by the Government of Pakistan, will begin tomorrow under the Ministry of Human Rights. The conference is being held under the theme, “Women’s Social, Economic and Political Empowerment in OIC Member States: Challenges and the Way Forward.”

The visiting delegations were welcomed at Islamabad International Airport by Minister of State for Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik, Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights Saba Sadiq, Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Justice Farah Naz Akbar, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Human Rights and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The conference will bring together ministers responsible for women’s and family affairs, senior government officials, representatives of OIC institutions, international organizations, and development partners. Participants will discuss issues related to the social, economic, and political empowerment of women across OIC member states.

Pakistan’s Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, will chair the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women on behalf of Pakistan.

As the conference chair, Pakistan will lead the proceedings and work with member states to promote consensus and develop a joint strategy for advancing women’s empowerment across the OIC.

The previous, 8th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women was held in Egypt’s capital from July 6 to 8, 2021, under the theme, “Preserving the Gains of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in Light of the COVID-19 Pandemic and Beyond.” Pakistan actively participated in that conference.
