Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court has declared the sentence suspension petitions of Iman Mazari and Hadi Chattha maintainable in the controversial tweets case.
Justice Muhammad Azam Khan of the Islamabad High Court issued a reserved verdict, dismissing the prosecution’s miscellaneous application regarding the maintainability of the petitions. The court ruled that the sentence suspension applications filed by convicted individuals Iman Mazari and Hadi Chattha are maintainable.
It is noteworthy that the court had reserved its decision a day earlier after hearing arguments from both sides on the prosecution’s miscellaneous application.
The prosecution had objected that the petitions filed by Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha were premature.
Earlier, the trial court had sentenced Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha to a total of 17 years each in prison in the controversial tweets case. Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka had handed down the sentences in the case registered under the PECA Act.
Following the trial court’s decision, Iman Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha approached the Islamabad High Court seeking suspension of their sentences.
