RAWALPINDI: One person was killed and 35 others were injured after multiple vehicles collided on the M-2 Motorway near Chakri in Rawalpindi amid heavy rain.
According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police, the deceased was identified as Shamsur Rehman, a resident of Attock.
The Motorway Police spokesperson said the accident occurred due to heavy rain. Following the collision, 30 injured people were shifted to different hospitals in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad for treatment.
Those who sustained minor injuries are being discharged after receiving medical treatment.
The accident comes as torrential rains continue to lash Rawalpindi, Islamabad and several other cities of Punjab.
Due to the ongoing heavy rainfall, the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Rawalpindi has issued a high alert and imposed a rain emergency.
According to the Managing Director of WASA, the ongoing spell is the heaviest of the current monsoon season, with more than 140 millimetres of rain recorded so far.
Meanwhile, the water level in Nullah Lai at Katarian has risen to 20 feet.
