National Assembly Approves Defence Forces Act 2026 Draft and Amendments to NCA Act

The National Assembly has approved by majority vote the draft Defence Forces Act 2026 and amendments to the National Command Authority Act 2010 after their approval by the federal cabinet. The decisions were taken during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The federal cabinet approved the draft Defence Forces Act 2026 during its meeting. According to the government, the draft legislation has been prepared as part of the changes introduced under the 27th Constitutional Amendment.

Following the cabinet’s approval, the draft Defence Forces Act 2026 will be presented before the ongoing session of Parliament for consideration and approval.

The meeting also approved amendments to the National Command Authority Act 2010. According to the government, amendments to the National Command Authority Act became necessary following the 27th Constitutional Amendment. The proposed changes will bring the relevant legal and administrative matters in line with the new constitutional framework.

The draft amendments to the National Command Authority Act 2010, approved by the federal cabinet, will also be presented before Parliament for approval. The Act is aimed at determining matters related to the position of the Chief of Defence Forces and the administrative affairs of the headquarters.

Following the approval of both legal drafts, the legislation will now go through the parliamentary process. Members of Parliament will consider the proposed laws and vote on their approval.

The meeting also reviewed the country’s political and economic situation. The federal cabinet held a detailed discussion on the overall law and order situation in the country and reviewed measures aimed at improving the security situation.

During the meeting, the cabinet members were also taken into confidence regarding the court’s decision concerning the health of PTI founder Imran Khan.

The approval of the two legal drafts marks the next stage in the legislative process following the federal cabinet’s decision. Both measures will now be dealt with through the parliamentary procedure, where lawmakers will consider the proposed legislation before its final approval.
