KARACHI: A new report in the mysterious death case of young Karachi businessman Mir Raza has revealed that traces of gunshot residue (GSR) were also found on both of his hands.
Earlier, traces of gunshot residue had been found on Mir Raza’s back and chest.
The Chemical Examination Laboratory of the University of Karachi has completed its analysis of samples collected during the exhumation of Mir Raza Ali and submitted the report to police.
According to investigative sources, samples taken from both of Mir Raza’s hands showed traces of gunshot residue.
Sources said the presence of gunshot residue on both hands could indicate the possibility that Mir Raza may have fired a firearm himself in self-defence. However, sources said the finding alone cannot establish that the incident was a suicide.
Investigative sources said that only four results out of the 13 samples obtained for chemical analysis have been received. The remaining nine samples could not be examined because they had been discarded.
The issue of the samples had emerged after a new investigation team was formed in the Mir Raza case. It was revealed that a total of 17 forensic samples collected during the exhumation had not been delivered to the relevant forums for several days.

Mir Raza’s lawyer and family had also expressed concerns that the samples could be lost because of delays in sending them to the relevant laboratories.
Lawyer Jibran Nasir, speaking to the media, had said that reports that DNA and other important samples had not reached the laboratory were extremely concerning, adding that the relevant investigating officers would have to explain the delay.
Police Surgeon Dr Samia Syed had clarified in this regard that all the samples had been handed over to the investigating officer and that it was the officer’s responsibility to ensure their timely delivery to the laboratory.
