Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has changed the venue of its August 5 public rally, which will now be held at an open ground near the Peshawar Motorway, instead of the previously announced location.
The decision was made during a meeting of the party’s parliamentary group held at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar, chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Suhail Afridi. Members of the National and Provincial Assemblies attended the meeting, where preparations for the rally and the change of venue were discussed.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Suhail Afridi said responsibilities had been assigned to all parliamentary members to ensure preparations for the rally. He described the August 5 gathering as a “semi-final” and a “decisive” event, adding that the party would present its future course of action before the nation.
He said the venue had been shifted to an open ground near the Peshawar Motorway to facilitate public participation.
The chief minister said that since October 15, 2025, the party had pursued all constitutional and legal avenues and had made every possible effort to resolve issues through dialogue. He added that PTI’s central leadership also preferred negotiations and reconciliation, but their efforts had received no positive response from opponents.
Afridi said he had approached both the Islamabad High Court and the Supreme Court seeking permission to meet PTI founder Imran Khan. He also said he had attempted to meet the chief justices of both courts and had raised the issue of meeting Imran Khan before the Chief Justice during a public event.
“As Chief Minister, meeting the leader of my party is my constitutional and legal right,” he said.
The chief minister further stated that it was the government’s responsibility to make decisions for the province in accordance with Imran Khan’s vision. He said no individual in the party had an independent political mandate, adding that the public had voted in the name of Imran Khan.
Afridi said rejecting Imran Khan’s mandate amounted to an insult to the province’s 45 million people. He also alleged that the federal government was treating the elected government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as second-class citizens.
