MQM-Pakistan leader and Federal Minister Mustafa Kamal has once again criticized party Chairman Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, claiming that he prevented Waseem Akhtar from becoming the Governor of Sindh.
Addressing a General Workers’ meeting, Mustafa Kamal said that his party has decided to completely change the country’s existing governance model. He said that powers and resources would be constitutionally transferred to the doorsteps of the people of Pakistan, adding that the country’s survival depends on such reforms.
He said that MQM-Pakistan believes in the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law, and stressed that party workers must continue their political struggle within the constitutional and legal framework.
The federal minister further stated that the Sindh government has received Rs22 trillion from the federal government over the past 18 years but has still failed to provide basic necessities to Karachi, Hyderabad, and other parts of Sindh. He announced that MQM-Pakistan would launch a protest movement from July 26 to secure the rights of urban areas in Sindh.
Mustafa Kamal also addressed the absence of Waseem Akhtar from the meeting, saying that there may be an impression that Waseem Akhtar has differences with him. However, he clarified that Waseem Akhtar has no dispute with him.
He said that before he joined MQM-Pakistan, he and Waseem Akhtar had disagreements, which they openly expressed during television talk shows and public gatherings. However, after joining the same party, he said they no longer held any personal resentment. According to Mustafa Kamal, Waseem Akhtar’s differences are with Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, not with him.

The federal minister further claimed that whenever Waseem Akhtar’s name is mentioned, he recalls something Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui personally told him. According to Mustafa Kamal, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that when Waseem Akhtar expressed his desire to become the Governor of Sindh, he asked Siddiqui, who was serving as the party convener at the time, to prepare a letter so they could meet the Prime Minister.
Mustafa Kamal said that Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui arranged the meeting with the Prime Minister and went there along with Waseem Akhtar. During the meeting, Siddiqui presented a letter to the Prime Minister stating that MQM-Pakistan had nominated Waseem Akhtar for the post of Governor of Sindh.
He further alleged that after the meeting ended, when the Prime Minister came to see off the MQM-Pakistan delegation, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui stepped back and quietly told the Prime Minister not to act on the letter that had been submitted.
