ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has handed over the commercial management of five trains to private partners under an outsourcing arrangement worth Rs10.75 billion.
Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi said that Pakistan Railways is expected to earn more than Rs100 billion in revenue for the first time during the current year.
Commenting on the train outsourcing initiative, the federal minister said that efforts are continuing and more positive developments are expected in the future.
According to a spokesperson for Pakistan Railways, the commercial management of five trains has been successfully outsourced for Rs10.75 billion. Previously, these trains were generating revenue of Rs8 billion.
The spokesperson said that Awam Express, Millat Express, Karakoram Express, Mianwali Passenger, and Narowal Passenger will now be operated under a public-private partnership model.
Pakistan Railways also expects to generate more than Rs10 billion in additional income through the outsourcing of freight trains during the next fiscal year.
