10 Newly Appointed Additional Judges Take Oath at Lahore High Court

LAHORE: Ten newly appointed additional judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) took oath of office following approval of their appointments by the President.

According to details, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Aalia Neelum administered the oath to all the newly appointed judges. Justice Tariq Bajwa, who has been confirmed as a permanent judge, also took oath of office.

The judges who took oath as additional judges included Justice Farhad Ali Shah, Justice Amjad Pervaiz, Justice Usman Ghani Rashid, Justice Asad Bajwa, Justice Khalid Bin Aziz, Justice Shireen Imran, Justice Ameer Ajam Malik, Justice Ghulam Sarwar Nahung, Justice Munawar Iqbal Dogar and Justice Ajmal Khan Zahid.

Punjab Prosecutor General Irfan Sadiq Tarar, the Advocate General Punjab and family members of the judges also attended the oath-taking ceremony.

Earlier, the President had signed summaries regarding the appointment of 10 additional judges to the Lahore High Court, the appointment of three additional judges to the Sindh High Court and an extension for one additional judge.

President Asif Zardari also signed summaries for the appointment of three additional judges to the Islamabad High Court, confirmation of four additional judges of the Peshawar High Court as permanent judges, appointment of three additional judges in Balochistan, and confirmation of one additional judge of the Lahore High Court as a permanent judge.

The President also signed a summary to bring the salaries, allowances and pensions of Supreme Court judges on a par with those of the Federal Constitutional Court, as well as an amendment order to the High Court Leave, Pension and Privileges Order, 1997.

In addition, a summary regarding the appointment of Haroon Akhtar as Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production was also approved.

The Judicial Commission, during its meetings held on July 20 and 21, had recommended the appointment of 19 additional judges. Following the President’s signatures, the issue concerning the judges’ nominations has been resolved, rendering the High Court proceedings ineffective.
