The opposition alliance has accused the government of staging a “drama” over Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s health and said that failure to implement Supreme Court decisions amounts to contempt of court. The alliance also decided to retain its decision to hold a full-scale protest on September 27.

A meeting of the opposition parliamentary party was held under the chairmanship of Mahmood Khan Achakzai. Senator Raja Nasir, Barrister Gohar, Asad Qaiser, Sohail Afridi and Salman Akram Raja attended the meeting.

A declaration was issued after the meeting, according to which the participants expressed deep concern over the health of PTI founder Imran Khan and reiterated that there would be no compromise on his treatment.

The participants said the government had staged a “drama” over Imran Khan’s health and that non-implementation of Supreme Court decisions constituted contempt of court.

The participants announced that their decision to hold a full-scale protest on September 27 would remain unchanged. They also decided to invite all opposition parties to participate in the protest and long march.

The participants agreed to intensify the public outreach campaign across the country, including Punjab, in preparation for the protest and long march.

According to the declaration, the participants expressed their resolve to continue a joint struggle for the Constitution, democracy and the rule of law. They also decided that all political and parliamentary decisions of the opposition would be taken through mutual consultation.

The participants endorsed the Grand Opposition Alliance and agreed to make the alliance more active.

They welcomed the inclusion of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and other parties in the alliance. They agreed that a broader alliance would strengthen the opposition’s voice in Parliament.
