Suspension, Revision of Six IPP Agreements Saves Government Rs4.3 Trillion

The federal government has saved Rs4.3 trillion through the suspension and revision of agreements with six independent power producers (IPPs).

The Ministry of Energy presented details of capacity payments in Parliament, stating that the agreements were suspended in light of the Task Force’s report.

The Task Force also reviewed agreements with several other power generation companies.

According to the details presented in Parliament, the government made payments of Rs6.46 trillion to IPPs over the past five years.

During the last two years of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, Rs1,389 billion was paid to IPPs, while more than Rs3,709 billion was paid to IPPs during the tenure of the current government.
