ISLAMABAD: An international network allegedly involved in online sexual blackmail and financial fraud has been uncovered, with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Islamabad arresting 111 Chinese and three Vietnamese nationals.
Foreign nationals were allegedly lured into online sexual conversations and then blackmailed, while a case has been registered against a group accused of committing financial fraud in the name of cyber romance.
The suspects were allegedly involved in cybercrime activities under the cover of an IT company.
The NCCIA registered a case under provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) and the Pakistan Penal Code. Following the registration of the case, an investigation into the financial and digital networks of the arrested suspects is underway.
The case has also revealed that people were allegedly targeted through online video chats and obscene content.
NCCIA Islamabad has expanded the scope of its investigation to identify more victims and facilitators linked to the alleged network.
