ISLAMABAD: MNA Shandana Gulzar has weighed in on the ongoing differences between Mishal Yousafzai and Salman Akram Raja, criticising Raja and stressing the need for unity in the current situation and efforts for Imran Khan’s release.

Addressing Salman Akram Raja, Shandana Gulzar said, “Raja Sahib is saying something very wrong.”

She questioned who would answer if details were revealed about who spent Rs500 million that came from the United States for prisoners.

Gulzar further questioned where the Rs400 million provided by Ali Amin had gone, saying that if she disclosed details about it, no one would have an answer.

She said this was a time for unity and for securing Imran Khan’s release, particularly for those who hold seats in parliament.

Shandana Gulzar also said that Mohsin Aziz and Azam Swati had provided financial assistance for her election campaign because she had returned from jail only a few days before the election.

Meanwhile, Salman Akram Raja responded to allegations levelled against him by Mishal Yousafzai, saying that he had not entered politics to make money.

“My last tax return was Rs300 million. I have not fought a single case in the past three years. I was among the richest lawyers in this country, and perhaps I still am. Was I supposed to earn a living by selling tickets?” Raja said.

He further said that if people whom no one would pay even “four annas” to pursue a case levelled accusations, the consequences, according to him, would be faced by those making the allegations.

Senator Mishal Yousafzai, during a conversation in a WhatsApp group, addressed Salman Akram Raja and questioned the role of parliamentarians.

She said the actual role of parliamentarians was not inside courtrooms but outside them, while pressure inside courts should be exerted by members of the bar councils.

Yousafzai also alleged that some individuals were given party tickets after allegedly paying money.

She further alleged that lawyers who had no association with the ILF were made members through conspiracies and groupings.
