US broadcaster Fox News has claimed that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian allegedly requested to resign because his powers had been limited, but Iranian officials and sources linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps have strongly denied the reports.

According to reports, President Masoud Pezeshkian informed the office of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mujtaba Khamenei that he was being kept out of the process of major decision-making, making it difficult for him to effectively perform his constitutional responsibilities.

Some reports also claimed that the growing influence of Iran’s powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other hardline circles had weakened the role of the elected government, leaving the president and his cabinet excluded from major decisions.

However, Iranian officials have strongly rejected the reports. Officials from the presidential office and sources associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said President Masoud Pezeshkian had neither resigned nor submitted any such request. They said the president continues to perform his duties.

The reports have emerged at a time when talks between Iran and the United States are continuing, while reports of differences among various political factions inside Iran are also circulating.

The Iranian government has so far not officially confirmed any resignation by President Masoud Pezeshkian.
